Central Caps off Season with a National Championship….

Central Wrestling headed to Florida as a relative unknown, but the past three days have opened many eyes and shown that the Pacific Northwest can hold their own. The NCWA National tournament was held this past weekend, and the Wildcats announced their presence loud and clear.

On the women’s side for Central, who only brought two competitors, placed fourth overall as a team, scoring 28.5 points. Christina Ordonez became the first woman in Central Wrestling history to win a National Championship at 159 pounds. Cady Chambers  did not disappoint either, becoming a 4-time NCWA All-American by placing third in her weight class. Coach Chris Chambers was thrilled at how the club did and said ” I see a lot of good things happening for the club in the future and I am honored to have gotten to coach all of you the last 2 years. Its been a great ride.”

On the men’s side , they continued where they left on in California where they placed third in the West Regional. Though none of the Central men garnered All-American status, they did place 7th in Division 2. David Kuich advanced the farthest for the Wildcats, coming up one win short of becoming an All-American. Steven Alfi, Kevin Madson, and Kyle Moore all wrestled tough for the Wildcats, but ran into stiff competition in Daytona Beach.

The season is now over the Wildcats, but what a season it was. The CWU men have put the NCWA on alert that they will be a force to reckoned with in the near future. Dont forget about the women’s team either, they did something they won’t be soon forgotten.
