Central Rugby Starts D1-A Schedule off Right.

Central Washington University opened their D1-A schedule with a 39-5 victory over UC Davis. The Wildcats dominated field position throughout the 1st half and applied pressure to the Davis set piece. Although Central was able to score at the 7 minute mark off a Alex Reher intercept pass, Central didn’t start finishing their own opportunities until the last 20 minutes of the half. Beginning with a Matt Lobe penalty conversion the Wildcats rang off 22 unanswered points to close the half up 27-0.

The start of the 2nd half gave UC Davis a burst of energy as a poorly take kickoff gave Davis their best field position on the day. The Aggies capitalized on the opportunity touching down for a well developed try. With the conversion missing just wide the score was 27-5 in favor of the Wildcats. The effort signaled new life for the Aggies who would hold the Wildcats  scorless for 15 minutes before a well executed lineout by Sean Wanaskera saw the lock jumper slip through the Davis defense.
Central would continue to threaten the Davis line for the remainder of the match but were turned away inside 5 meters on three occasions leading to a 5 meter scrum that set up Central’s final score of the day by 8 man Matt Murphy at the 75th minute to seal the vicotry for the wildcats. Central’s next match will be on the road against St. Mary’s of California on March 24th at 1:00pm in Moraga, CA.http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Eppic-Media/107665442240
