Rust. Most people would expect rusty play after a two month break from 7’s competition. Maybe a slow start or missed conversions, but CWU Rugby had different ideas. The Wildcats started the Las Vegas Invitational like they were still at Texas A&M in December. Central Washington totaled 92 points in two pool matches against the University of Indiana and Weber State. In the morning session they stepped on the gas right away and never let up, scoring from the first offensive possession for Central, en route to a 45-0 shelling of the Hoosiers.
In the afternoon session, different team, same story. Central came out of the gates fast and furious, Weber did not even have a chance. They shut out Weber, by a score of 47-0. Not only was it the second consecutive shut out for the Wildcats. 11 of the 12 players that entered the game scored a try. Head Coach Tony Pacheco “was very encouraged by the way the players are sharing the ball and executing the attack systems.”
Next up for the Cats is Yale University at 9:20 Friday Morning. They will then advance to bracket play Friday afternoon.
