CWU Home Opener This Weekend

Look at the Weekend Ahead Mar. 3rd-5th

Busy, Busy, Busy. That sums up  Central Washington Sport Clubs as  many of our clubs begin their spring seasons. On tap for the weekend is 3 home events around campus as well as 3 clubs showcasing their talents around the Northwest.

Men’s Lacrosse-

Whitman College-Saturday March 3rd in Walla Walla (1 PM)

Coming off an impressive come-from-behind victory in Salem last weekend, the Wildcats will look to continue their success playing back-to-back matches on Mar.3rd and 4th. They will head to College Place, WA and to take on the Missionaries of Whitman College, who are currently 1-1, this match has playoff implications because it will be the first in-division match for the Cats.

Washington State University- Sunday, March 4th @Nicholson Multipurpose Fields (12PM)

The Wildcats will then head home to take on Washington State on Sunday Mar.4 at 12 PM on the Nicholson Multipurpose Fields. This game is a division crossover for the Cougars and the Wildcats. Washington State resides in the PNCLL, but they are Division 1 as Central is Division 2. This will be the first home game for Central this year.

Women’s Rugby-Saturday March 3rd @Alder Recreation Complex (1pm)

The CWU Women’s Rugby team will finish their regular season on Mar.3 against Washington State University. They are coming off a tough loss to Western last weekend and looking to finish their season strong.The game will be at Alder Recreation Complex at 1 PM.

Climbing-Saturday March 3rd @University of Idaho

As we inch closer to the “Ropeless Rodeo,” the climbers of CWU will head to Moscow, Idaho to continue their Northwest Collegiate Climbing Conference season. The climbers have had a very successful season and looking for constant improvement from all club members.

Women’s Lacrosse-March 3rd & 4th @Boise, Idaho

The Women’s Lacrosse team will look to begin their season on the right foot. They have played one game so far and will play four in Boise. They will have their home opener next weekend in Ellensburg at Alder Recreation Complex.


Wrestling Pulls off a Shocker in San Jose.

Central Wrestling traveled to San Jose State University to compete in the NCWA West Coast Regional on Saturday Feb. 25. The Cats shocked the West Coast Region by taking home a third place team trophy. They scored 60.50 team points and every wrestler scored team points as well. The six wrestlers that competed in California were Kyle Moore (125lbs), David Kuich (133lbs) ,Isrrael Fernandez  (149lbs) ,Adam Raemer (165lbs) ,Steven Alfi  (174lbs)  and ,Kevin Madson (235lbs). All six wrestlers placed in the top six of their weight classes, meaning that they all received All-Conference Nominations. More importantly though Adam Raemer, Steven Alfi, and Kevin Madson who all placed third in their brackets will advance to Nationals in Daytona Beach, Florida. David Kuich and Kyle Moore both earned “Wild Card”  they will compete in nationals, being entered into the competition as of Mar.1st at 8PM. Head Coach Chris Chambers was very excited and said that “we wrestled very well and had a good showing for Central Washington University.”

Equestrian Finishes Regular Season in Style.

The Central Equestrian team finished up their regular season on Feb.11 at the Gold Crick Equestrian Facility. The event was hosted by Central and was the last IHSA show of the season. As a team the Wildcats finished in a second place tie with the Vikings of Western Washington and qualified 5 individuals through Hunter Seat Regionals. The Regional IHSA show will be held in Silverton, Oregon on March 10. This will be the first postseason event for the Cats. They will look to continue their success in Western style as well as the Semi-Finals take place in Ocala, Florida on Mar. 24-25. Go Cats.

CWU Men’s Lacrosse Escapes the Rain with a Victory.

The start of the Men’s Lacrosse season was a rocky one with losses coming on the road to Western Oregon and College of Idaho. Making their third trip in as many weeks, something needed to give. CWU headed down to Salem, Oregon to take on the Bearcats of Willamette University underneath the bright lights of Sparks Field. Rain was a constant factor throughout the game as the Wildcats forged a 18-17 come from behind win.

The Cats who had a woeful first quarter, down 9-3, fought their way back to knot it up at 11. The Second half was out right battle with the Cats scoring 7 goals, to the Bearcats 6. The win now puts CWU at 1-2 and next up for the Wildcats is their home opener against the Division 1 Cougars of Washington State. The game will take at 1pm at the Nicholson Multipurpose fields. Come out and support your Cats as they try to upset the Wazzu.

Look ahead at the Weekend Feb.24th-Feb.26th

The last weekend of February is upon us, and it looks to be just as busy as the previous weeks. Four Clubs will travel around the Pacific Northwest and our Rugby Clubs will host the first outdoor matches of the spring in Ellensburg.

Men’s Lacrosse

The CWU Men’s Lacrosse team looks to get their first win of season, as they head down to Salem, OR to take on the Bearcats of Willamette University. They have had a rough start to season, but showed improvement last week in a hard-fought loss to College of Idaho.


The CWU Hockey team will travel to Bellingham, WA and Tacoma, WA this weekend as they wrap up their season against Western and Washington State. The season for Wildcats has been one of building and creating a culture of success for CWU Hockey. They will look to finish the season strong and take some momentum into next year.


CWU Wrestling head to San Jose, California this weekend to compete in the NCWA West Regional tournament. They will try and qualify for the NCWA National Tournament in Ocala, Florida. The wrestlers will compete all weekend on the campus of San Jose State University.

Women’s Lacrosse

The CWU Women’s Lacrosse team will play their first game of the spring this year after last week’s cancellation,They will head to Washington State University to take on the Cougars in an early season match-up for both teams.

CWU Rugby Home Opener Feb. 25 Doubleheader

CWU Men’s Rugby

The CWU Men’s Rugby team has played in some far away locales in 2011 and 2012. They have ventured to Texas, Nevada, and their home away from home Seattle. That’s about to change this weekend.

They will play host to the University of Washington in a D-1AA match at Alder Recreation Complex at 2 PM. The Wildcats who have gotten off to a rough start in 15’s play will look to get back on track as they take on the 1-1 Huskies.

CWU Women’s Rugby

Central Women’s Rugby team will try to make their final playoff push this Spring. They are currently 3-1 with their only loss coming on the road to the University of Washington. The CWU Women’s Rugby team has been very successful and the next two weeks will be very crucial to their season.  The will begin a day full of  Rugby as they take on Western Washington at  Alder Recreation Complex starting at noon, this match will precede the CWU Men’s  Rugby match at 2 PM. They will then finish up regular season play against  Washington State on Mar. 3 at the Women’s Varsity Soccer Complex in Ellensburg.

Look at the Week Ahead. Feb. 13 -Feb.18

As the weather begins to show signs of an early spring Central Washington Sport Clubs begin to break out their equipment and begin their spring seasons.

Once again five clubs will traveling all around the Pacific Northwest looking to improve upon their young seasons.


The Northwest Collegiate Climbing Conference is back at once again traveling to Oregon State University. The Climbers are very excited about this season and will look to continue their success in Corvallis.

Women’s Lacrosse

CWU Women’s Lacrosse will begin their spring season in Portland, Oregon against Lewis and Clark College. This will be the second year of competition for CWU Women’s Lacrosse and they will to build a foundation so the club will be able succeed in thew future.

CWU Men’s Lacrosse

The Central Men’s Lacrosse team looks to bounce back from an opening day defeat to Western Oregon. They will travel to Caldwell,Idaho to take on the Coyotes of the College of Idaho.

Dance Team

The CWU Dance Team will perform at Kentlake High School as a guest performer in a high school show. This will be their second performance on the West side of Washington this year.


Central Hockey will continue its season by heading down to Portland, Oregon this Friday as they take on Portland State.
